This document will give a few suggested strategies you can build your deck around for each of the seven ideals. This list is not exhaustive, there are many smaller themes consisting of just a few cards as well as possible strategies players will inevitably come up with themselves. The goal here is to give a quick overview and starting point for deckbuilding and drafting.
Something kind of notable for those coming from MTG draft is that due to to there being 7 ideals, most themes are centered on a single ideal rather than two or more. You will almost always include multiple ideals in your deck, so have fun combining cards and strategies!
Arca
Chaos, The Rift, Arcane Magic, Change
Arca represents a chaotic and wild energy that has expanded throughout Atnia after the apocalypse. Highly magical, both destructive and creative, to many it is symbolic of the new world.
Interaction
Damage cards as they are being played (or your opponent directly), and force your opponent to discard their cards.
Nightmares - Self Discard
Nightmares and rift cursed monsters creep across Atnia. Discard cards that can later be played from your discard pile.
Spells
Wield powerful rift magic. Many Arca cards benefit from you having previously played a large number of spells.
Talentus
Martial Arts, Armies, Skill & Craftsmanship
Talentus represents mundane skills as well as combat prowess. Low on magic / magic takes a more subtle form. Magic tends to be either magical weapons, or being supernaturally skilled at something.
Interaction
Use your units to disrupt your opponent’s strategy.
Swarm / Multiple Attacks
The Burning Plain contains many dangers; warring factions, undead soldiers, and hordes of demons. One of the two major aggro decks, Talentus is able to overwhelm opponents with huge waves of small units. Many cards benefit from you attacking multiple times in a round, and having multiple units also allows you to do that!
Cache
The Fifth Legion manages the distribution and storage of supplies for much of eastern Atnia. This is integral for keeping the army fed and local villages safe from the horrors of the burning plain. Cached are stored for later, able to be played the round you cache them and the next, and afterwards are discarded.
Epoca
History, Ancient Secrets, Past Civilizations
Drawing from ancient magics & past civilizations. While also very magical, it is in many ways the opposite of Arca, as it represents a romanticization of the past and opposition to the chaotic new world. Strongly connected to the coins/currency of the old Atnian kingdom.
Interaction
Destroy cards as they are being played, and temporarily stall your opponent’s units.
Card Draw
Atnia is filled with ancient secrets waiting to be discovered. Draw cards through divination magic and idk something something
Items
Ancient relics hold untold power.
Zelor
Passion, Emotion, Storytelling
One who values Zelor may join you if they truly believe in your cause or you give a rousing speech. Zelor magic draws from your own passions and emotions.
Interaction
Aggressive Burn
The second major aggro deck. Often uses Arca cards!
Potency
Materia
Physical Resources, Alchemy, the Untamed Wilderness
Resources people need and desire in the new world. While the other ideals are largely conceptual, Materia is grounded in the physical reality of the world. Food, lumber, salt, stuff that has value independent of concepts & social dynamics.
Interaction
Locations
Potential
Eminus
Reputation, Law, Trust
Your reputation among others or within a community. Laws and law magic. Trust built through a shared history or one’s reputation is important to those who value Eminus.
Interaction
Recall
Knights + Spells
Deitas
Gods, Religion, Relics
Connection to and power of the gods. Since the apocalypse, Atnia’s connection to the gods has been severed, but those who still worship them draw power from relics left behind after the fall, still infused with the power of the gods.
Interaction
Clerics / Destroy Allied Cards
After the apocalypse, Atnia’s connection to the gods has been severed. In this new world, many clerics have gone mad and some even resort to sacrificing their fellow people to perform divine magic. This strategy combines cards that do things when they die with cards that kill off your own cards for some benefit. Beyond this there are a few notable cards such as Pale Sun’s Influence which you can utilize particularly well here (you can attack, play Pale Sun’s Influence, then attack again this time with the units created from it killing your cards).
Veriglas / Multi Ideal Cards
The Veriglas church seeks to unite the people of Atnia and the world to achieve world peace. Veriglas cards reward you for including many different ideals in your deck, as well as for playing multi ideal cards.
Additional Strategies
Control
Control can work in most ideals, just include in your deck a mix of removal for cards on the battlefield and removal for cards on the horizon. Also consider using a few large cards such as board clears to stabilize in the late game. Here’s some notable ones:
Reanimation
The Deitas reanimation cards can be combined with the Arca discard cards to put big cards into play!
